Chicago a cappella is seeking interns to assist with administration, box office functions, marketing, scheduling, and other responsibilities. Internships are available during the 2018-19 season. Interns have the opportunity to see from the inside how a small nonprofit arts organization is run, including exposure to fundraising and development, marketing and p.r., board development, production and planning, finance and budgeting. Tasks will include interaction with staff, board, volunteers, vendors, patrons, and artists.
All interns get training and experience in:
Production/Planning: Assist staff in planning logistics for concert season, including contracting singers, ordering and distributing music scores, and scheduling rehearsals.
Marketing: Assist with marketing campaigns, including social media, target marketing, and promotional projects; research and spearhead other marketing opportunities.
Customer service/box office: Assist with administration and fulfillment of subscription orders, including confirmations, mailings, complimentary ticket requests, and other communications.
General Office Administration: Assist staff with all aspects of day-to-day office administration; tasks will potentially include work in fundraising, board communications, education/outreach, music library, and general administration.
Interns during the concert season will also get training and experience in:
Concert Production, acting as Assistant House Manager or Stage Manager for Chicago a cappella’s concerts, including stage and front-of-house setup and clean up, coordinating backstage with front-of-house, and finalizing and overseeing logistics at each venue. Attendance at all concerts is a key component of a season internship.
and Event Planning, assisting with event planning for our gala fundraiser and smaller cultivation events, including researching, soliciting, tracking, and acknowledging silent auction and raffle donations; working with vendors and volunteers to coordinate logistics; and staffing the events.
Interest in nonprofit arts administration and motivation to learn. Excellent oral and written communication skills and general computer competence. Ability to work independently, make sound judgments, and utilize interpersonal skills to work with a variety of staff, board members, artists, and volunteers. Customer service experience is preferred but not required.
Season internship runs roughly from Labor Day to Memorial Day each year and includes attendance at concerts in addition to office hours. All internships include 12-15 office hours per week. Work hours can be crafted to fit the successful candidate’s schedule, but should include at least 2-3 partial days between the hours of 9-5.
Stipend of $100 for each month of internship, paid monthly.

Our interns are exposed to many aspects of nonprofit arts, and previous staff members have secured jobs at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, WFMT, Museum of Science and Industry, and elsewhere.
